Importing Skoda Superb estate

    Hi,

I don't do a lot of driving during the week, but use a car at the weekend and take long trips every now and then of 300km each way. I also need something with a pile of room for car seats etc. I'm not driving anything at the minute: have just been on the bike and using Go-Cars.

I was looking to import a petrol Skoda Superb estate for in and around £10-£15k (before VRT) and have been looking on Autotrader and the usual sites for a while. I had been focusing the search on petrol cars to keep some value in the car in light of the diesel-dump in the UK and because I don't do huge mileage.

Since it seems like petrol might be hammered as much as diesel now, I'm starting to think that rather than paying-up for a 2015/2016 petrol Superb and trying to get 15 years of of it, it might be better to pick up a cheaper, high-mileage diesel in the UK for around €10k all-in and try to get as long as possible out of it until it's taxed off the road.

There are plenty of 100k+ mileage (ex-fleet) Superb estates with FSH and few owners on UK sites that I could put a deposit on and get tested.

Also wondering if I should be looking at hybrids or anything else instead of trying to pick up one of the cheap diesel cars that are going at the minute in the UK.

Any advice at all would be appreciated.

I wouldn't over think the whole petrol v diesel future thing. From what you describe a petrol would suit what you need. We have two petrol Superbs 3's 150bhp in the family and I think they are fantastic, do anything cars. But the current model is rare in petrol/Estate, even in the UK. The hatch is more plentiful, also with a huge boot. In the UK S model has the 120bhp engine, go for the 150bhp in the SE and above if possible.

Old model 1.8's are plentiful, if thirsty.

    Grand. Thanks for the advice.

Imported diesel cars seem to be at least a third cheaper (if not more) at the minute. Was just thinking there'd be less outlay at the start if both petrol and diesel's cards are marked in the end.
