I just got a panicked call from a friend and am trying to confirm what I think.

A UK licence holder, on a visit to Dublin, has been stopped on his phone. The gardai were writing out a ticket, then got a call, and tore off on blue lights.

The friend had given an Irish address.

Are points applicable to a UK licence? And a lesser point-what's any fine going to be?

He is on 9 UK points at present.

They can't put points on a UK license I think.

p.s. Why did they give an Irish address?

No idea. Think he was a bit startled. I'm in Spain at present and he rang me in a panic!

If they finished filling out the fine it will be posted to the address but no points on the license. If fine is not paid , court date then. Normal if it's an English license they never come back for the court date and all is forgotten.

Some good might come from it. The fright might do him no harm and he might learn to cop on from it.

The ticket, if it arrives, will go to the Irish address.

Just return it to the fines office, with "not known at this address"
