How long would most insurance companies give you to make a claim?

Scenario: car is in a small accident today.

Obviously you SHOULD tell the insurance company today but.....how long would it be before most insurance companies would say "feck off, you should have told us ages ago".

A week, a month etc? I'm sure most policies must have something in the terms?

All policies will state something along the lines is ‘as soon as practicably possible ‘ Never give an insurer the opportunity to exercise their rights under that condition, tell them immediately as its in your interest in the long run
