Public Transport Costs - Commuting to Dublin

    Hi All,

    I'm looking at the cost of public transport from the Midlands (Clara) to Dublin city and nearly faint every time I work out the weekly cost!! It doesn't change no matter what colour pen I write in!! 😂

    My company does not offer the Monthly Tax Saver travel, only the Annual. This has to be applied for in either May or December so I'm too late this time around.

    By my calculations it will cost €466 per month;
    €392 Train
    €44 Luas
    €30 Train Station Parking
    €107.54 per week

    Does this sound correct? With the Tax Saver it's €54 per week including all of the above (a colleague of mine avails of this and she's in the same tax bracket/prsi class as me).

    Help!!

    Kearns bus from Tullamore or Kilbeggan, €45 for 10 journey.

    If you get an annual tax saver in December, they usually offer discounted parking for a year for around 250 compared to 360. Clara is a small station have you checked if there is availability in the morning and if there is alternative parking near that's cheaper or even free.

    Tullamore has a better service and bigger car park. Good thing as the ticket is the same cost you could use it from there if you needed.

    Where on the Luas are you traveling? Do you use a Leap Card instead of cash?

    It will be into the city centre so probably Abbey Street. I work in Tullamore but will start in the Dublin office from the end of August.

    I didn't even think of checking availability of car parking in Clara Station!! Thanks for mentioning it!

    Until I can avail of the Tax Saver I think I'll get Kearns bus. It's half the price!!
