    Is there an online guide giving the basics of HA and IOT, explaining all the opportunities available?

    It is a massive topic, hard to say where to even start.

    I think common easy starting point that most people try are:

    - Smart speakers, either Google Home or Echo/Alexa
    - Smart lights, Philips Hue the most popular choice. Ikea a popular value choice. Maybe smart light switches, but a complicated topic.
    - Smart heating controls. Nest, Hive, Tado, Netatmo, etc.
    - Smart plugs, tons of options.
    - IP cameras, for security, etc. Nest, Yi, Logitech Circle, Arlo, Blink, Ring, etc.
    - Video Doorbells, Ring, Nest
    - Smart Smoke Alarms, Nest Protect
    - Smart Security systems. Still an immature and developing segment. Yale, Honeywell, etc.
    - Smart hubs, Samsung Smartthings, Xiaomi, Home Assistant

    Really it depends on what you are interested in. And the next two days will be a great time to buy with the Amazon prime sales on.

    Also it's worth considering what level of control you want.
    Basic smart controls for your lighting for example, being able to remotely switch on/off or tell Alexa to switch on /off, and are usually done via the accompanying app.
    Or fully automated using motion and light level sensors with rules set via a hub to control when and how a light comes on.
    Smart controls are relatively easy to setup.
    Full automation, especially if you want different systems, heating, lighting, security, to interact with each other, can be more difficult to setup.
