Digiweb or Eir

Which service provider is better for broadband ? I am currently with eir and it's a well know fact the f2000 modem they supply is crap!!!(I have had 5 of them since I have been with Eir) I am currently considering switching to digiweb because they supply better modems which are the firtz box 7430 which comes free or the 7530 which is newer and comes with a small fee on some packages . The 7530 sounds like the better option being dual band and supports mesh network compared to the 7430 . Any advise on topic would be greatly welcomed. My current wifi speeds are near 40 mps download and 10 upload on a good day . My question is would digiweb be an improvement over eir? I do think it would be.

Switched from Eir to Digiweb and would never look back.
The Frizbox is excellent and I added fritz repeaters (bought online elsewhere) to build a mesh network.

If you want to use a home phone it will either wirelessly connect to any modern DECT cordless handset and become the base station, or you can use it like a regular PSTN landline by plugging into the back of the device. You can also configure it for any VoIP provider - it even has built in voicemail and fax (slightly overkill but great If you’ve a home office).

The main thing is their customer service is excellent. They answer the phone, respond to emails, resolve problems and take an interest in customers.

I’ve also found while my speeds are the same my ping times are significantly lower with Digiweb.

Oh! One other handy thing too - if you're with them for FTTC and either Siro or OpenEir FTTH comes along in your area, you can seamlessly switch over without contract messes as they use both networks.

    One word of warning:

    7430 is 2.4GHz only.
7530 is dual band and a genuinely excellent device. It also supports mesh networking.

We bought FritzBox mesh network plugs online. They came with German 2-pin plugs, but it's not that big a deal as you basically are leaving them plugged in permanently, so a small Ireland to Schuko plug adaptor is all that's needed. They setup in about 2 seconds and so far have worked flawlessly. The main box also manages them for software updates, and produces a nice graphical map illustration of what's connected to which device.

The interface is a bit more logical and user friendly than most, but it takes a bit of exploring. For example, you can enable the advanced mode and setup all sorts of priorities for QoS for specific devices and so on. It's generally very easy.

Also the VoIP has more functions than your average office PBX. For what it is, it's incredibly feature rich.
There are even features you're unlikely to ever use, like you can use 'dial through' where it will recognise your mobile phone number when you call in, answer with a dial tone, you enter a pin and you can then access your internal phones or dial out on your landline e.g. if you're abroad and need to be 'at home'.

You can also use the Fritz For App on your home network to make your iPhone or Android phone your landline.

There are some other apps for FritzBox too that allow you to configure things and it will deliver your voicemail to your email or to your app.

Oh and it supports home automation, so you can add various devices like Fritz radiator valves and so on.

At present though they didn't seem to have UK-type plugs or controlling lights, only German / continental European Schuko types, but I assume that may change if Fritz gets more customers in the UK.

They even have some degree of built in lightening protection : https://en.avm.de/news/the-latest-news-from-fritz/2019/storms-ahead-how-to-safeguard-your-devices-from-lightning-damage/ lol

    Thanks for the info.

I am also considering changing from Vodafone to Digiweb.

Due to an ongoing problem since last Sept and, virtually no customer service , I am going to exit early from a contract.

Thanks for the replies. The information is much appreciated. I have also learned that the fritz box modems all seem to have a 5yr warranty. Definitely going with Digiweb .I am also glad this information can help others

All these providers seem to start at a 30Mb basic package. Is this enough? E.g. 3 people in a family streaming Netflix, YouTube etc simultaneously?

Big jump to the basic 250Mb virgin media starting offer

I don't see any of them advertising 30mbit/s on FTTC. They all seem to be 100Mbit/s (or whatever the line will support up to that).

What's the story with Digiweb's Fair Use Policy. It seems to be 500gb per month compared to 1TB for the rest. Is this actively enforced?

Certainly haven't encountered it anyway and I have no idea what my usage is. They don't seem to display it on the portal.

Edit just checked on the Fritzbox and I used 565,342MB last month and didn't hear anything from them.

I was originally with Eir when FTTH was rolled out in our area, but switched to Digiweb almost a year ago.

Never looked back. Far better router, cheaper and the support (although only needed them once) is on another level.
