Hi, a math problem. If a contract says 5% at year required for traveling.

How many trips per year would you say that is?

I have made this calc 260 working days at year x 5%. 1 or 2 trips at year for 1 day would suffix to get fulfill the criteria.

    If 30% , I would say 2.6 x 3 = 8 trips per year.

    Any corrections please?

    How long is a trip?

5% in days of 260 is 13 working days by my calculations.

    5% of 260 is 13.
13 days travelling = 5%, unless my math is wrong.

    Should be starting from 230 / 235 not 260.

20 day working month. 10% is 2 days, 5% is one day per month. 12 days a year. Round it off as 2 weeks a year.

Seems a bizarre figure to quote in a contract.

Currently sipping a beer so if my maths is wrong, I apologise.

You are deducting annual leave. Why ?

5% = hardly ever but not totally ruled out. One trip a year, maybe a week max. Percentages are irrelevant.

Just ask how many overnights per month should be expected for someone in the role?
Will the travel load change over time as you get more familiar with the team?

I know a guy who signed up for a worldwide role with 10% travel, expecting a night or 2 per month.
Turns out the hiring manager was considering working days at whichever location, and not time spent getting there.
In the first months he was in Asia several times, for a day, with 1.5 days travelling there and back, so actually more than 50%.

Getting to a meeting in Australia for Monday morning will need travel already Friday.

That’s interesting how for the hiring manager travel time wasn’t even considered. 50% x 20 days. Was he 10 days away from home? Or a week eg 25%. Just wondering if my calc is right

You are deducting annual leave. Why ?

The company can hardly expect you to travel for work on your annual leave or public holidays. So the starting point is the days you actually work in a year.

    Agree completely with this.
