    Hi all,

Is there a known "best of breed" FTTH provider? Just had a call from Vodafone stating that FTTH will be live in my area in the next month and are offering me a package but I dont want to jump on it without finding out if they are a good provider. If they are offering it to me I assume other ISP's will also.

How are they compared to the competitors?

    Thanks!

All will provide similar connection speeds as the connection is independent of the ISPs ..... so it is up to you to decide what your criteria are for 'best'.

Some place high priority on price, while others seem to prioritise customer service.

I have not seen a comparison table of the providers with the various criteria usually used by customers listed and rated.

Digiweb offer excellent FTTH speeds, they are highly reliable and they offer great customer service - https://www.trustpilot.com/review/digiweb.ie

We've been with Airwire since December and can only speak highly of them. Had an issue one Saturday afternoon which turned out to be a router issue. Was able to call them and get it sorted straight away. On a Saturday. Was seriously impressed.

You need to clarify if it will be the SIRO or open eir network as the available ISPs are likely different between both.

If you are in an urban area it's likely SIRO, more rural it's probably open eir.

I’m in a rural area so I’m assuming it’s Open eir.

I went with eir as the ISP ..... mainly because I wanted the 'free' sports channels at the time.

The only problem I had was with the guys from K&N who came out to do the physical install.
The first guy was a waster and caused a delay and the arrival of unnecessary equipment and men to do something with a pole.
He would neither accept nor check that the fibre was in an underground 'cabinet' outside my gate!
That was not eir's fault TBH .... just a terrible installer.

I have had one occasion to contact eir since (forgotten why now) but my call was answered in reasonable time by a guy who had some knowledge of things. I later rang a second time and got an equally pleasant and knowledgeable guy.
These calls were well after they had opened their own customer service centres in Limerick, Sligo and Cork? Prior to that they used an external service for such calls and by all accounts the service was abysmal.

On the other hand, eir's prices were (are?) higher than other providers, which when it comes time to renew my contract will be my main priority (as eir sport has been decimated by loss of content).

Others will have different experiences, but that is mine.
I will consider Airwire, Digiweb and maybe one other that takes the time to post on these boards, when I renew.
Price will decide for me, taking into consideration hardware provided as well as VOIP service.

Some or all of these are your options in that case. I'm with eir myself and have had no issues.
