If that's your opinion after reading the article then that is fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion as much as I am to mine.

The President of the High Court seems to share my opinion, perhaps you didn't read the article fully?

Honest mistake (possibly through negligence) but then covered up...whether or not this was to spare heartache to the owners, who knows.

Yes i have read the article. Seems like a human error. The vet was good to the dog and did a home visit when ther dog was suffering. I respectfully disagree with thr president of the high court.

My apologies, I thought you may have only glanced at the report.

There is no doubt it is a case of human error which can occur in any professional practice.

It just seems in this instance the Veterinary Council of Ireland and the President of the High Court have more empathy for the owner of the deceased pet than the vet involved.

Perhaps that is because of the dishonesty the vet displayed and they wanted to assure the general public that such practice is not only frowned upon but is in fact a very serious offence with very serious sanctions.

Mr. Twomey was previously cleared of trying to claim money by deception when in 2017 he charged the same lady 200 euro for cremation of the same pet.

I'd imagine there would have been more serious repercussions for Mr. Twomey if he had been found guilty of this.

Anyone who thinks that the ashes you get back are only from your own dog is very naive, it's generally a pic and mix.

    This is simply not true.
There are very strict regulatory controls over pet crematoriums.
In any case, can you imagine the damage such fraud would do to their business? Why would they do something so foolish, and so easy to test? The mistake in this story was made by the vet, not the crematorium.
I have personally attended cremations and can absolutely vouch that if the individual service is paid for, then that pet, and that pet only is cremated alone, and its ashes collected into its own vessel. The owners of the crematoriums are, in my experience, extremely compassionate and take great pride in what they do, and how they do it.
It's a cheap shot to accuse them otherwise.

Despite what some people think, this incident is not about an "honest mistake".

Anyone can make an honest mistake and a professional body such as the Veterinary Council of Ireland does not suspend a Vet for two months for making an honest mistake.

Mr. Twomey was punished for not one, but two, counts of "professional misconduct" each of which involved fraud and dishonesty.

The Fitness To Practice Committee found the misconduct to be quite serious and was concerned for the reputation of the profession and rightly so in my opinion.

We had a dog pts sleep this week :( & as well as individual cremation, we got lock of fur in a little bottle & paw prints. Thought it was a lovely touch at such an awful ( sudden) time.

Oh Knine, so very sorry to hear, but such a lovely thing to receive at such an awful time.

I can’t thank our vets enough for the compassion & care they’ve given each & every pet we bring to them.

I don't really see what the fast one is,?
As in, I can't see how he was gonna profit from the situation, he was trying to cover up a cock up, or thought he was, or something...
I assume he'd still have to get the dog cremated later anyway. Its a shame for the dogs owners,

Really sorry to hear that Knine.

Thanks for the post above DBB, very reassuring. I actually found the post you were responding to very upsetting and I don't get upset easily especially not on boards but such an unnecessary, cruel thing to say.

The procedures for sanctioning veterinarians seem to be more robust and open than those of the legal profession. Ironic given the involvement of the president of the high court.
