    Gents,

What are these like compared to the older model?

I am to find an Avensis for €3500ish on Monday for someone who had a 07 diesel Mk2 from new till last year and loved it. Would I be better off pointing him in the direction of a nice example of a Mk2 or would a Mk3 (early one probably, 09-10) be a good shout?

    Anything worth knowing about them?

    Cheers

Same engine in the 09 as in the older mk2 07.

They gave issues with the doors cracking around the hinges. Toyota replaced them under warranty but I'm not sure if they still do.

It's basically the same d-4d 125bhp engine carried over from the facelifted Mk2 but they tweaked it for lower emissions and motor tax. Mk3 suffers from failing door straps, Toyota replaced many of them but I don't think they really solved the issue until the 2015 facelift. The only other thing to watch is the electric parking brake, it can give trouble on early models. Also UK imports can have a bit more harder ride as the Irish models got suspension modifications specifically for our roads that UK models didn't get.

    Thanks

So not much risk over the previous model then?

Its mad, it only dawned on me today that I've had no dealings with the new model at all

I was gonna ask actually, have they a manual or automatic handbrake. Something to keep in mind

One other thing to check is that I think some of the very early mk3s didn't have a dpf. I stand to be corrected though.

Don't know if it's makes a difference or not but Toyota dropped the hatchback model in the mk3. So it's saloon or estate.

Fwiw I'd try find an end of line model of what they already have. The earlier models of the newer car didn't have a nice feel to the interior.

Correct. The Irish models with dpf have DPF in the model description on cartell, so AVENSIS 2.0 D-4D AURA DPF for example.

I’d nearly have a last of the old model than an early new model.

I don't think the budget is up to the task unless you wanna head to blighty.

This one looks tidy apart from the noticeable stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet, has over 12 months NCT on it. Being sold by a trader but Duke knows his beans anyway.

Another one here though it's a lower spec UK model:
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-avensis-t2-modle-taxed-02-20-ampnctd-3500/22331277

Lots of tired old ex taxis out there on donedeal and the 2.2 version is best avoided.

Or if the budget stretches a little or hard haggling then this 2010 one had the same owner(not the seller) for the last 4 years and has a few months tax left on it:

I'll say this, the only people I ever heard calling them an aventis were Dublin taxi drivers.

Nah, it covers most demographics. I still remember that from selling them.

Im seriously debating a 09 / 10 estate Avensis diesel. Watching this thread with interest. Lots of swimmers out there. Hard to find an original Irish one for reasonable money..
