Hi all. Considering buying a 2010 MINI One D as the thread title suggests. All the reviews I’ve seen online tend to be for other models across the MINI range so I’m just wondering if these are a reliable car, what do I need to look out for if I do go for it, things like that.

It may also be worth noting that I’m considering a UK import rather than one here as the ones in Ireland tend to be massively overpriced imo.

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys have!

I recently bought a 2010 Mini Clubman, prior to buying the door lock on the passenger door had to replaced and a part in the window electrics on the same door. I only noticed the window problem when I took it for a test drive along a duel carraigeway and the wind was whistling through a gap something chronic. The windows drop a fraction when you open the door and are supposed to automatically close back up - it wasn't. The actual door couldn't be opened from the outside.
There was also an issue with the lock on the bonnet sticking- some WD40 sorted that.

I don't know if these are common problems but they are the ones I found prior to buying it and I only found them because of test driving and literally opening everything for a look.

Had it 2 months now and no issues - and it's a joy to drive.

Had some of the older ones but I'm just replying to let you know that you will find it difficult to get insurance for a car over 10 years. So for this year you'll be fine but if you intend to switch insurers after the first year you'll find it tough. You can renew with your existing insurer though.

Very fun to drive. Impractical in real life but nobody buys them for practicality. I swapped mine for a 2016 Hyundai i20. There's a stark different in power between it and the mini. I loved accelerating in the mini

I’m currently insured on 06 and got a very reasonable quote with my current insurers so I’m not too worried about the insurance side of it.

Practically is one thing I have seen mentioned but I have no kids and don’t have a massive need for loads of storage so that wouldn’t be an issue for me either.

When were you first insured on your 06? If it before the car was over 10 years old then yes your current insurer will continue to quote but you might have a harder time if it's a new vehicle.
If none of the above is true would you mind sharing the insurers name as it might be handy in the future

I only got insured on it last year. I’m with Axa, who also gave me a very good quote on the Mini I’m looking at. That quote was as a new policy as well, not just amending the current one.
