Having trouble with Chrome / Google Search on HTC Desire 650

    I have a HTC Desire 650.

Something has changed in Google Chrome browser recently. When the app opens there is the google search box as per normal, but now when I start typing something the drop down suggested word don't appear, instead a section opens from below with suggested words based on previous searches. If I select one I get redirected to cse.google search results.
This section that now appears has an information icon, when I select it it says:

Show the recommended keywords when searching

Please go to Settings >General Settings> Search Suggestion to manage it

I can't find this settings option to disable it or return to the original arrangement.
From what I've read this is something to do with malware. How do I remove it and get the Chrome/Google search working again?

Also if I type in something to be searched without using the suggested options I get the results on the regular google page.

Solved. The problem was coming from HTC's own Sense software. I thought it was all disabled but there must have been an update

I've the same issue past few days on Samsung. Suspect it was from software update as well. I know I solved it previously but can't find solution this time. Any suggestions?

If you look at that second image, above the keyboard there is a symbol of a globe, to the left of that is a symbol for the HTC Sence software settings, I just selected Suggestion Off. You might not have this setting on a Samsung.
The solution was very simple, as I say I thought I disabled the HTC software (you can't delete it, it just come back!) so I never thought of looking at it.

Yay that worked. Thanks a million. I was trying for ages earlier in the week and had to leave it before I went mad

I even did a factory reset, which was annoying, before I found it.
