V60 engine trouble

    Just want to get some opinions my car a V60 with the D4 engine is just back from the mechanics today got a good few bits done including the injectors re done.
    I've had a few problems recently my mechanic said is all down to the modern stuff like dpf etc

    The car has 185k on it and I do a fair bit of driving, he is suggesting the possibility of removing the DPF, EGR and remapping it and reprogramming the air flow meter I think it was. He said that won't be checked by NCT for at least 5 years. He reckons the EGR and DPF will go in time which would be costly.

    my questions are is this a good thing to do? Will I be ok with the NCT crowd emissions wise if I go ahead with it.
    what do people with knowledge of it think? He says I'll get better fuel economy too

    The engine will most likely work better without soot recycling and blowing out the soot out to the environment like the classic Euro 1 and 2 90's diesels used to do. But it's not great for the air quality and as you know from the dieselgate even with all emissions controls new and working some diesels still breach the agreed limits.

    If your consciense will allow it go for it. Or you can just keep repairing the car when need arises. The new injectors will allow the DPF to last longer and if you got the inlet/EGR cleaned from soot accumulations the car would be good for another good few years without becoming an environmental disaster.

    At the very least you will have a modified car that you will have trouble to insure - dpf removal may be a grey area legally speaking, but non-disclosure it's definitely not.

    Curious, is it the 5 cylinder or the newer 4 cylinder?
