Job application...prudent to follow up?

    Hi
I recently applied for a role...closing date not yet passed. Is it prudent to ring now and get my name in there as “keen”? I would find it irritating to be on the receiving end of those calls but someone mentioned to me last week that it may be prudent?
    Any thoughts?
    Maura

I would not recommend doing this.

A lot of companies put a closing date on applications so they can gather CVs for a certain period, then assess who they have and shortlist. Your definition of "recently applied" might not match theirs - recruitment processes can be very slow especially in the height of summer when everyone's on holidays.

I can't see what good this will achieve other than peeving off the company
