Salmon jumping

I've already told everyone I possibly can, so why not here!

On Monday, after climbing Croagh Patrick I drove back to Leenane. I stopped at the Ashleigh Falls for a look. Decided to go right up close and WHOOSH - fully grown salmon were jumping 4-5 feet out of the water trying to get up the falls!!

Judging from the numbers that were jumping there were obviously lots there. And they were jumping everywhere! One just made a two foot vertical leap straight in front of me, as if he was just having a look.

It was one of the most memorable things I've ever seen. I don't know how long they're going to last, but if you're in the area, I'd highly recommend trying to get a look.

Probably not best to give out exact locations of salmon in areas.
Anyone can see the area online like this and poaching is a huge issue on salmon right now.

The area is well known for salmon and salmon leaps. Poachers know where the salmon are anyway.

Leenane is well cared for and well monitored. A man who tried to fish there with no licence got firmly ejected.

Yeah, I was debating about posting, but as one of the other posters already said Leenane is very well monitored. While I was there there was a warden on-duty watching everything. And it's not as if it's not known already as a salmon river - even the information board at the bridge is virtually all about salmon.

    But I understand your sentiments.
