Time until French fine arrives?

For anybody who has received a French fine for speeding in an Irish registered car, how long after the offence did you receive the fine? I have no problem paying the fine if it comes but would rather it came sooner rather than later to get it out of the way.

    * Apologies to mods if this thread is too old to be posting on *

If it's any help it's a years later and I haven't received any fine.

I got caught by multiple gatsos, a mobile speed van (the guy in the back with a laser gun) and the average speed cams around Bristol.

    Never heard a dickey bird.

    I’d hire Ian Bailey’s solicitor.

I go to France a lot but To be fair to the french though the warning signs before the camera's are quite big. I suppose what's the worst that can happen if you don't pay it, they just stop you and bring you to a atm. It's very slim that would happen to be honest. So probably worth a chance to say " i never got the fine"

been holidaying in France for the last 10 years, never received a fine.
Went to the Netherlands at Easter and got 2 fines the week after we got back :( (and I'm by no means a speedy driver, I've no points here either).

Well it wont come registered post so you can claim you never got it so forget it.

It wont save you from trouble.

Let's just be adults and accept consequences of our actions. Should the fine arrives, pay it and be done.

If it was me and i was caught say doing 160 in 100 zone i would gladly pay but if i got caught doing 3-4km over the limit they will chase me to the ends of the earth before they'd get my money.

You simply won't get ticket for 3 km/h over the speed limit. If you get ticket, be an adult and pay it.

When there’s money involved i wouldn’t bet on it. There’s miserable cops in this country that will do you for 3kmhr, trust me.

yes. One was 5km/h over, the other 7 km/h over. The hire company also charged me for supplying my details to the authorities.

Ah it wasn’t your own irish reg car. With hire cars no way out of it. So i’m guessing the hire company took the cash from your card to pay the fines?

In many countries this is illegal, they cannot pay a fine on your behalf as it's essentially admitting guilt on your behalf.
Normal procedure is they will charge a fee for providing your details then its up to you to deal with it.

FYI French ticket doesn't go anywhere and it doesn't matter if you are stopped in france as they still have to prove it was you driving or you even owned the car at the time.

The Germans deliberately have a ten euro fine that kicks in at 1KM over no points just the small fine.

That said I would pay it. I don't want to go to Milan for work and find myself in jail over an unpaid fine.

You will not receive a fine in the post for speeding in an Irish car abroad. Other states do not have access to the Irish national vehicle file and cannot ascertain ownership.

I got the fines in the post, the hire company took the "admin fee" off my card. Cost me €150 total.

In a rental I got it pretty sharpish, no admin fee - fair play Enterprise.

In my own Irish registered car five years on and I'm yet to get anything.

Wrong, all EU states have access to the vehicle registration systems in all other EU countries and will send out fines to the owners of the vehicle.
    See https://etsc.eu/faq-eu-cross-border-enforcement-directive/

Will you at least do a bit of research before you make a fool of yourself. Ireland has not a yet signed up to that directive, much to the angst of the EU. The only information shared with another state is for drunk driving convictions and that is with the uk. So no, other states do NOT have access to our national vehicle file.

While you were sleeping..... It's around now it's officially being signed in. It's all about money really as they discovered how many were getting away with it. Will be a nice bit of extra cash for the coffers yearly.

It is not yet operational here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,587 ✭✭✭Micky 32

Look at the date. It has not yet been enacted here.

Did you read the rest of my post? It was been enacted this month either last Monday or next Monday thereabouts.

Where does it day it was signed in last Monday, or this Monday?

Where do you get it from that it was only enacted just now? The article you posted from the Independent is from 2 years ago and here is the law, dated to 11. August 2017 by Shane Ross http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2017/si/371/made/en/print

Yes it’s 2 years old, but from Monday 1st July Ireland and France will be exchanging drivers details . Same applies for french drivers here. It doesn’t seem right the goverment should be sharing our details to other goverments .
