Who's going? Their Glasto set looked mental and they have Rolling Blackouts coastal fever supporting them, who are my new favourite band. Not to mention the Claque, nice to get a look at them before Alltogethernow. All in all, promises to be a great day out. I've never had a bad gig in the Iveagh Gardens.

I'm going but I don't think they playing ATN? I don't see them on the lineup.

The Claque, who are also supporting Idles, are playing ATN.

Sorry, only half read your OP. I didnt realise there were 2 supporting bands. A buddy of mine is going for Rolling Blackouts.

Fook it, just bought myself and my 15 year old daughter (who is a massive fan) tickets. This will be my 4th time seeing them :pac:

I'm primarily there for Rolling Blackouts coastal fever. Hope Downs is the best debut album I've heard in years and the EPs are great too. Have to say though, the more I listen to Idles, the better they get. Their lyrics are full of surprises. My 10 year old has Danny Nedelko off by heart. Belting that one out with him in the front seat beats the **** out of Dermot Kennedy.

Id say Fontaines will probably do their own Iveagh Gardens show next year

Think there was already a thread for this. I'm going, it'll be my sixth time seeing them!

They only play for about an hour and 15.

Hopefully based on those stage times Rolling Blackouts will be given a good 45 minute set, they've been on the bill since the gig was announced. Really looking forward to them, very slick and summery debut album, and by all accounts they're great live.

I believe there is an outdoor finish time of 10:30 for all outdoor events in Dublin. Not sure if it's just Dublin or not.

I missed out on London tix for December. Back in Dublin a week too late to make it to this. Gutted.

They are an outstanding live act. Also, always a wonderful crowd at their gigs :)

The AF Gang follow them everywhere fanatically and as you say they are a good bunch of people. A lot of them are in Dublin for this and meeting at Bruxelles I think.

If you can, hook up with the AF gang. Great fun. I have my 15 year old daughter with me so I need to be civilised :)

Where is the gig entrance to Iveagh Gardens. I’ve tried googling and can’t find a location map.

Perfect weather, lovely venue and everybody seems sound. Unusual for an outdoor gig!

    Wow, what a gig.

Great music, energy and showmanship They can play a crowd and also the crowd were great.

Also, when I arrived Lee Kiernan & Joe Talbot were standing amongst the crowd to watch the support acts. Signed loads of autographs and posed for pictures. Unreal.

There I am with them, no laughing. Joe was so humble and even thanked me for coming. They really appreciate their fans. Great to see.

    Fantastic gig,
Gig of the year so far for me, will be hard to beat.
Really enjoyed the claque too got me all excited about seeing girl band in November.

    What a gig!
Was in the mosh pit for a lot of it. Really good-natured crowd. Idles really gave it socks. I love the way Talbot keeps himself psyched up.
The only cringey part of the night was when the people they dragged up on stage started recording themselves. Can’t anyone just experience things any more?
Very impressed by RCBF. Another excellent live band.
Wasn’t in on time for the Claque.

"Covered" would be a very loose description of what happened

    That bit was awful

Linger, In the Name of Love and Living on a Prayer

What was the f*cking point of that?

They do terrible covers pretty regularly in that breakdown. I think it’s fantastically terrible and hope they always do it.

Thought it was great and clever how they fitted it to their style, I wouldn't take it serious at all.

I'm still buzzing from hat show last night and I haven't had that in a long time.

Decent gig and a great crowd. I'd agree with an earlier poster that the "covers" are getting a bit much - All I Want For Christmas was funny enough the first couple of times but shoehorning in novelty covers is getting a bit old now. Also, anyone know why Great seems to have been dropped from rotation - they played it in the Button Factory but not Vicar Street or Iveagh Gardens. The set isn't exactly overlong as it is, so why leave out such a belter?

Low point of the evening was Joe coming back on after the set finished to drag some randomers up for a butchering of Óró, sé do bheatha bhaile. That was excruciating. The band's "no encore" policy should be extended to include that kind of gack with immediate effect.

That was a load of ****, yes. Not a good idea leaving "Well Done" off their setlist either.

However, another cracking gig from the boys. Idles seem to have the most diverse fans. There was a 5 year old on his dad's shoulders bopping away. Also a man at least 70 years old rocking an I'm Scum t shirt !!

I should probably qualify that a bit - Joe came back out and asked if anyone wanted to come up and start a singsong; he didn't specify the song or take any part in it in fairness to the man - just walked off again once the two volunteers had started about their business. Still, ill-advised at the very least...

What a great night out. Iveagh Gardens, sun shining, dead on crowd, 3 great bands in top form. Life is good.

They just asked for people to sing a song and the two girls chose it and they were fine. It was just a bit of craic and I think Idles wanted an Irish twist at the end.

Would have preferred an encore but so be it.

Would have loved to have heard "June".

That's a pity they never play it but it's such a powerful and emotional song, I can get why they don't play it. Too personal.

I wrote this song for me. It’s the only song where I’ve ever written the lyrics first and will probably remain so. I struggled to see where it would fit on the album because it was so personal, but after hearing the riff Lee [Kiernan, guitarist] wrote, I realized that I did want to show my pain. I wanted to illuminate the importance of grieving parents' right to call themselves mothers and fathers. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to play that song live.

Apparently the album is written and the artwork is done. Due for release in 2020.

I really enjoyed the gig last night. Crowd was brilliant...Just a mix of complete randomers!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 145 ✭✭shamtastic

Was a great gig, really diverse crowd. Would have liked to hear Well Done and Great as mentioned before. Also wasn't a fan of bringing the people up on stage during the breakdown of Exeter, probably the most tense crescendo on the first album, don't mess with it! Rolling Blackouts were great, it's gas, I've listened to their album I'd say 15 times and never noticed they changed vocalist between tracks!

My fourth time too. Enjoyed it but didn't match their indoor gigs tbh. Think the sound level wasnt loud enough compared to usual. RBCF were very good but their Whelan's gig was sublime.
