Is this a sort of warning shot from them? Give us another bailout or we'll do it more often kind of thing?

Maybe if you spend 20 seconds reading the announcement you would have noticed that you also can't do that:
while customers will also be unable to use their Debit Cards in non-Bank of Ireland ATMs and also worldwide.

thats a fairly serious IT change if they have to take the whole thing down for 5 hours. Be really interesting to see if it works properly afterwards.....

Presumably part of the €1bn core infrastructure modernization/upgrade they are in the middle of.

Unheard of to have that much down time nowadays. I suspect they've a major release which has a serious impact on some of their old core systems. Think they still use RPG in there.

Doubt this release relates to that given the downtime involved.

I'd say yes, it's a huge issue for anyone going out who's with BoI. Good to get people aware as me being a customer, I haven't received any notification of this..

It really annoys me at the ATM machine in UCD Dublin.

Not if you're a BoI customer using a debit card

They could well be, but if they are BoI customers and want to use their debit cards after 2am then best of luck

it's about time they upgraded their IT infrastructure because their online services are stuck in 2010. Can't even used Android or Apple pay and their mobile app hasn't been updated in about five years.
