Saw an article here in the Echo: https://www.echolive.ie/corknews/Former-Father-Ted-actor-to-protest-outside-Curraheen-dog-track--a7197d82-ee1e-44fe-9acd-b15fd0899c98-ds

I think it's sad that Pauline McLynn, an actress with about 2 dozens film and tv credits, and author of a dozen books is still referenced to a part she played in a Father Ted.

You'll see the same with Joe Rooney and Patrick McDonnell, who are always introduced as Father Damo and Eoin McLove. It must be sad knowing that you're best known for that character you played in one episode of a comedy two decades ago, like everything you've done since is irrelevant.

Sure there all Fr Ted actors now.

    Big who cares.
It was a huge tv show. They should be proud of their work and stop moaning about being referred to a character in that show.
Also, it shows they haven't been in anything near as successful as father ted

Well Father Damo has toured as him in character. So that's on him.

I agree with Pauline McGlynn and Eoin McLove.

Pauline did a scene in Shameless that was basically porn. And a few other scenes that leaves nothing to the imagination. It was kinda traumatizing. Google it with extreme caution.

She's a very well regarded author in fairness to her.

In fairness it's what most people associate her with and she made great use of it's fame herself.

Will she be holding a big sign that reads ‘Down with that sort of thing’ at her protest, seeing as Ted can’t make it?

    Or "Careful now?"

She refused to take part in the documentary the world of father Ted and I think I recall it being mentioned that she was trying to distance herself from her role in Father Ted and wanted to be remembered for more than just that.

To be honest, when I read the OP I was frantically hoping that Pauline McLynn hadn't died.

Don't scare me like that, OP.

I didn’t know the name of the actor who played
Eoin Mc Love, if I saw a picture of him it would be the only character / TV show I would associate him with. (Occasionally watched Moone Boy and Bridget & Eamon but not enough to remember him appearing (or sin’t see the episodes) I only know he was in them from reading his IMDb page.)

So whatever about Mrs Doyle, I wouldn’t consider him a well known actor.

I knew who Joe Rooney was.

He was played by Patrick Mcdonnell

Doesn't this happen with a lot of actors and actresses? Jennifer Anniston has been in 30 odd movies since Friends finished and she is probably still best known for being Rachel in Friends.

Pierce Brosnan will always be best known for James Bond to me etc.

I know, I was just on his IMDb page. :) And it is in the OP.

Maybe everything they done since is irrelevant. It's the public that decide and not the actor. I remember Daniel Radcliffe been asked about been typecast... with his bank balance it would be a small price to pay

I never got the whole Fr Ted hype, but many people to their taste liked it.

Ah sure it's one of the side affects of being an actor. Look at Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, despite all they've done since their Harry Potters days they'll always be most well known as Harry and Hermione. Rowan Atkinson even, most people will always think of him as Mr Bean!

Speaking of Rowan actually, his comedy stuff is HILARIOUS.

Maybe so. Joe Rooney for instance has acted in and written numerous TV series, and been around the world as a comedian and singer.

Fair enough about Radcliffe and Watson known for HP, but they had starring roles.
Rooney has a one off part as Father Damo. Probably thought nothing of it at the time.

Obviously someone was going to respond with the head through the wall thing, hilarious.
Was funny when it came out when I was 15, but it's crap now IMO. The obsession with it on Reddit and Boards is odd.

Anyway regarding the actress in question, I have to change the channel when the ad comes on Newstalk featuring her, she has the most horrible voice.
