We have mice

Saw a mouse a couple of different times out in the back garden yesterday. The neighbour said he saw one recently too and also caught another one a while back. I got some live traps and have them out in the garden now with peanut butter in them.

Just wondering a couple of things...

How many are there likely to be? I don't think they're solitary creatures.....

How far away from the house do they need to be released to keep them from returning?

Hi well done for humanly trapping them and releasing them. Are these outdoor mice? If so mice are everywhere in my opinion. As long as they aren’t coming into my house I’m ok with that! But I know others aren’t :)

It is a good idea to take in bird food from feeders at night time to deter rodents coming into your garden. At this time of year she could have little babies that she is still feeding incase you want to consider them and leave her there a little longer.

Also, mice will clear from an area very quickly if there is a cat present. They are very sensitive to the smell of cats so that could keep them away in future :)

A bird feeder attracted them to my place.

Field mice, then house mice and a rat, all in the garden in about 6 weeks

Walked a ferret around and the house mice disappeared
Field mice legged it when the rat showed up.

Turns out the fat covered flake food attracted them

The rat was after sunflower seeds too and the field mice ate what fell out of a multi seed feeder

I just leave out Niger seed now, no issues

The rat was smart. We thought it was a squirrel initially as he was in the three sitting up and reaching over to select the seed he wanted. He sit there eating it like a Mars bar

He would wait until you drained the sink and run over to see if any food was trapped in the grate over the drain
He lived in the ivy in the garden next .

He wouldn't go away. Eventually he had to be shot with a pellet gun, he didn't mind the ferret. It's a pity he didn't just move on, but my dogs would have gotten him eventually and it would have been a cruel ending for him and possibly for them too

Anyway find out what's attracting them and that might help.

Myself and the neighbour had bird-feeders hanging out in the gardens. The neighbour is also in the process of digging up his garden so he may have disturbed a nest of them.

Saw 2 of them together last night scurrying around out there. I checked the traps this morning and while both were closed, they were both empty!
