Flies around the house?

Dunno if there's a better suited forum for this but just wondering am I alone here?

Our house is relatively clean, no food waste kept for long periods, we shower daily, clean the kitchen and bathroom etc. regularly.

But I'm noticing a lot of flied hanging around lately? And I can't figure it out. Is it just he heat and they're tormenting everyone? Or am I just a filthy bastard?

This morning there must have been about 7 or 8 small flies sitting on my back door and window and about 2-3 buzzing around downstairs randomly.

I havent invested in any fly kill spray or anything yet, but I aim to do so today.
I'm not sure if this is a side effect to the warm weather or if I just need to up my cleaning regime?

    Tell me I'm not alone?!

Is there a body in your basement or in a shallow grave in your garden ?
Invest in a few venus fly traps or a tarantula.

I tried the tarantula solution and now the house is overrun with spiders.
How can I get rid of them?

I do hold open the window or door and say to them, "either get out, or die"

If you have fruit bowl they'd be attracted to that. Especially bananas.
Or plants especially if there were.

But this is After Hours so try blasting the place with .... Lavender

No fly spray please !!! (Aerosol, chemicals, environment!)
Open the windows & doors and let them back out again

It's opening the windows & doors that's letting them in.

This worked wonders for me last summer. Just remember to empty the bag regularly

Yeah I know , but they’ll also fly back out , they’re drawn to windows and light. If you don’t you'll always notice lots of dead ones the next day at the window.
Fly spray is a big no no.

Why is fly spray a big no-no?

Can you still get those strip yokes that used be in my grandmother's house?

    Get some Owls!

Only solution is to not open doors or windows. This country is infested with flying insects this time of year. You can't go outside after 6pm for fear of being eaten alive by midges.

Yes euro stores usually have them.

Can of Lynx+lighter is so much more fun. BBQ'd fly.

Fly strips are effective but they're disgusting things. The need to be right in the centre of the room just above head height to really work so there's no hiding them.
The best solution to this is to invest in a couple of sarracenia plants. Venus flytraps are fascinating but they don't eat enough to make a difference. Keep a sarracenia in a sunny spot in about an inch of rainwater and sit back. Mine catch wasps and everything. The best thing about them is that the odd time you see a fly in the house you now think "Oh good, it's feeding time."

Brilliant. That would probably work for spiders, snakes and owls as well.

My abode is festooned with cobwebs, I never take them down, they have evolved into huge webs over the years. I never have a problem with flies, the spiders catch and eat them.

Think of them as drapes or tapestries... :p

Well it might be because of the boys from the 'what's the etiquette here' thread are in your area.

Do you see a pintman or some guy called flash hanging around your house lol.

    I have a Jack Russell & she’s a great fly catcher! They don’t stand a chance when she’s around.

It's not your filty abode OP, they are hatching somewhere outdoors nearby, probably a refuse collection point or hedges if your in the country. In fly season I open the windows only a centimeter or 2 instead of leaving them wide open. You'd be amazed what a difference this makes.

    Probably fruit flies.

Are they located around the sink or a pipe of some sort? They could be drain flies, attracted by a leak somewhere.

If New Home is around, she'll tell you as she's the McGyver of After Hours! :D
