Guys and Gals, need a bit of advice, changing the OH car and thinking of Hybrid 2014/15 very little driving about 4k per year.

What about Jap imports, are they good, would buy from dealer, not private, anything to look out for,?

Other option is new car on pcp. maybe electric ?

    Thoughts appreciated.

This is how I would approach it:

How much do I want to spend on a car, be it per month or in a lump sum or whatever?

Only doing tiny mileage, do I need a car at all, much less a new or nearly new car.

How much will I spend on petrol on an average car for small money. How much will I save on petrol by buying a hybrid or even fully electric car?

My own opinion is that anyone doing tiny mileage per year should just buy whatever they like the look of, or consider not having a car. Spending big money on a car that won’t get used is silly to me.

Ref Japanese imports, I’m not convinced the ones we’re getting are the cream of the crop, it’s very hard to verify the history quickly, and a lot of sellers are not the kind of places I’d spend money in.

It's hard to justify the premium you will pay for a hybrid over a similar standard petrol car when your doing such low mileage. My father is in a similar position and the maths are just not adding up for the little use he gives a car given that used hybrids seem to be retaining strong resale values.

Thanks for replies guys appreciated. not on here too often.

I have company car, but wife sometimes has the 2 grand kids ( both under 5)while parents work, and they live a little away, and trips to playschool and such means need for car, no public transport.

Have a 08 1.8 petrol at present but tax is a joke ! considering amount of use, have other car for socializing, trips, shopping and such, but not available to wife during the weekdays.

Was looking at maybe cheaper petrol but again tax is stupid, and car obviously need to be reliable, pretty spacious and above all safe.

So if anybody has any more thoughts, garage recommendations or even cars you would buy please post, but as i said i only am not here too often

    Thanks

The cheapest thing to do is keep the car she has for another few years.

Waiting for someone to recommend a 2017 Tesla Model S....!

Small petrol or used Nissan Leaf.
