Sisters dilemma with anonymous texts, can number be tracked?

Long, long story cut short... My sister has started receiving anonymous texts from a number telling her that her boyfriend has been cheating on her.

I know this guy well and I just don't believe it myself, I'm not that close to him or anything and wouldn't really be too bothered if they did break up so I don't think I'm blind to the truth or anything, I just flat out don't believe it. He denies it too of course.

She has called it and never any answer its always turned off but there has been some texts back and forth but very vague. Just claims its someone she knows that couldn't stand by and watch it happen. Could be true, could be someone trying to break them up, who knows?

Anyway, I'm assuming this is a second phone/sim card for someone and probably prepay just for this purpose. Can it be traced at all? Even location it was used?

Did he or your sister recently fall out with anyone ? I wouldn't be surprised if it was an affair he's called off

Seems like a very glass half empty kinda reply. It's not rocket science. She texts back the number and asks for details. Names dates places etc. Proof or else it's just some one s*&t stirring. He's not going to admit it if he did it but it could end a decent relationship if he didn't and is being set up. I'm assuming she has asked him if he's done the dirt ?

He says he didn't and doesn't know what's going on. I'm 50/50 on it being **** stirring and being true, there was some detail in the texts which might make it true, it was to do with a bar in Dublin and another lady, he was in that bar alright but it was a work function but it's not conclusive.
Anyway, any ideas on the technology side? Are prepay phones unidentifiable?

Legally traceable. Absolutely not without a court order

I'd like to know this too if anybody has any ideas. I started getting texts from an unknown number after my relationship ended. It started tame enough but they eventually got more personal bringing my family members into it and it started bothering me.

OP a few things I tried that didn't work for me but might for you.. I saved the number to my phone and sometimes you can add people on social media apps based on the numbers saved in your contacts. See if there's linked accounts for the number if you have instagram, snapchat, FB and check if there's a whatsapp profile pic against the number.

Of course it's likely to be someones second sim used for nothing else only those texts, in which case none of those will work.

Tell her to block that number as well.

    This.

I think you're getting bogged down in the means of communication, which doesn't really matter in the greater scheme of things. What matters is whether what is being said is true or not.

As it stands, you're 50/50 on the validity of the messages. There's enough detail there to lend credence to the stories, but equally so, it could easily be a disgruntled work colleague (one location mentioned was a work function), disgruntled ex, but to name a few.

Ultimately, it may be true, or it may be not. There's no way of knowing without proof - so it's a case of put up or shut up. In the era of camera phones and whatnot, it would be relatively easy for the anonymous texter to grab a snap of them together and send it on, or to send on the details of the girl in question. So far there's nothing though, just random accusations from the ether.

    Legally traceable.

Not always - could be (and probably is) an unregistered PAYG phone number.

Block the number and move on.

Did you try ringing directly into their voicemail?
No way would I move on until I got to the bottom of it.

I once contacted girl myself, her then fiancee tried to get it on with me, claiming he was single. Back then there was no Facebook relationship statuses, so went along with it untill someone spotted us together. They told me the truth, soon after I got girls nummber. And rang her, obviously no guns blazing. Taught I'd let her know the situation, long story short she called me a liar and such and such. I had no reason to break anyone up, if shoe would be on another foot I would have loved if someone told me.
Anyway. Man denied it obviously...And that ended on me beeing verbally abused by anyone two of them knew.
Later on they broke off engagement because he got someone pregnant, kid looked just like him and woman had to do dna to prove he is the father. As far as I know he fled country then.

What I'm trying to say is, people don't go out of their way to **** stirr for most part. He must be guilty of something....

I surmise you've done a google search of the number in a phrase search (i.e within double quotes): e.g. "0861234567" or "086 1234567"?

You could also google her own number to see if it's freely available online (e.g. if she had something for sale on carzone, etc)

Lastly, as PurpleMountain suggests, you could ring the number as 08651234567 and go straight to their voicemail to see if you recognise the person. If he's cheating be grateful you're finding out now. I'd block the number if they're refusing to elaborate.

By the way, if he's ever logged into google you could see where's he's been every day if he leaves the location tracker on his phone on all the time. I leave mine on and get a 'Your month in review" email into my gmail each month telling me where I've been and when.

some people do go out of their way to do horrible things like this. some women can be very vendictic and do things like this. school girls are very cruel to each other.
my own grandmother is a bit like that , always causing trouble just for the fun of it. its a lot mildere than this but she like **** stirring. maybe she is bored or lonely i dont know but she does it. her close family know this and have caught her out several times twisting things one person said and causing a row

as for being guilty of something. who knows. maybe he is ,maybe he isnt.
maybe he has a stalker or someone that has a huge crush on him or her for that matter. in this day and age of cheap sim cards etc it could be anyone with any grudge or infatuation

Just to update this thread. Turns out he was messing around, other methods employed to catch him out and its inrefutable proof really. The text must have been real but still have no idea who sent it. Pretty untraceable really but seems to be pretty legit in the end. Usually no smoke without fire.

This happened to a guy I know. Turned out it was a guy in his office who hated him.

OP send the number without the reason why to everyone on her phone and ask them to pass it on doing the same asking if it comes up in her social circle.

Tell the boyfriend to do the same. Send it to everyone on his phone etc.

You might find it that way if maybe 10 people who know him send it someone might have the number attached to a name etc.

You don't need to say why.

That's a really interesting idea, and has a fairly good chance of success. You could make up a cover story about how you got a new phone and you lost your contacts or whatever. It might well attract some attention from family/friends though, so you'd want to be prepared for that.
