Electric Shower Recommendations

Hi. I know this has been asked a lot and I did use the search function and read that but still a bit unsure. Basically I am buying 2 new electric showers. One is to replace an existing Galaxy shower which is still going since 2008! The other will be putting a new unit in the main bathroom. So I always thought Triton was better than Mira, less problems, etc, so was going to get 2 Triton t90 sr showers. But of course then I googled them and they get brutal reviews in the UK. So looking for any up to date experiences on the best ones to get. Plumber queried why I was considering Triton, another recommended them over Mira. So any opinions appreciated. Thanks.

The triton t90sr isn't available in the UK yet so I'm wondering if the review was for a different model. It's been available in Ireland for the last three years though. It's made for the Irish market.

You have two options for a Pumped electric shower. Mira elite qt is the most problematic pumped electric shower I've ever come across. 10 percent have failed straight out of the box and another 10 percent have failed in the next 18 months. There are threads here on the mira elite qt problems. Mira parts are very expensive so if a QT is three years old & the motor fails then its better value to replace the shower rather than repair it.

The triton t90sr has slightly over a half of one percent failure rate. It is the only truly silent pumped shower on the market. Triton spare parts aren't expensive. If the motor fails after 3 years then it's better value to repair the shower.

Plumbers have their own favourite brand or models. This does not mean that they are the best. They fit them & walk away. For the most part they don't hear good, bad or indifferent about the shower after that. Shower Repair company's deal with the problem showers. We install five to seven triton t90sr showers for every one mira elite qt. We repair or replace 20 times more mira elite qt showers than triton t90sr showers in the first 3 years of the showers life.

On another note, has anyone told you that you can only use one electric shower at the same time in a house?

Hi. Thanks for all that info. Certainly points me in the direction of the Triton t90sr. Yes, I was told by the first plumber that they couldn't be used at the same time which I'm ok with. The plumber I'm dealing with now said a breaker would have to be put in. Honestly not sure what that is but I do trust him very much. I have a lodger in the house and feel a second electric shower would be more convenient for her. I'll try to find that uk review I found.

This was the site I found when I googled Triton t90sr. On reading the reviews the t90 reviews are irish customers alright. The rest are uk customers with different issues.

Triton all the way I had a T90 in for over 10years no problems

Replaced with a T90SR really quiet shower and service from Triton is top notch

I read back as far as September 2018. Three relate to the Triton t90sr. One is limescale. This isn't covered by any warranty from any company. He says he has a water softening system but these systems have to be maintained. If they aren't topped up with salt then they are worthless. Some people think they are saving money by using less salt. This is not the case... Another claims that less water flowed compared to their 25 year old shower. The difference here is the tiny shower head from their old shower will give the impression of much better pressure compared to the large shower head you get with modern electric showers. The bigger the head the more spread out the same amount of water is. It looks like less water. Their old shower was 8.5kw & the t90sr 9kw. In actual fact there was slightly more water coming out of the head, not less. They seemed to have a fixed belief that the smaller silent motor in the T9sr means less water. Turn the flow all the way to cold & it will be almost like a power shower. It's a great little pump & can pump more water than any electric shower will ever need... The third shower said that it takes a long time to get hot water. It can take 10 to 30 seconds to get hot water. If it takes longer than that then it could have a faulty TCO. This can happen to any shower & is covered by the two years warranty. This owner would have been better ringing Triton service department rather than running to give a one star review without giving them the chance to replace the part under warranty. Unfortunately many people use reviews to try get businesses to bend to their will. I get clients trying this myself. Mira are famous for the quality of their cartridge showers. Triton Ireland are famous for their aftercare service. I think all plumbers can agree with that regardless if they prefer a Mira model to a Triton model. Aqualisa Ireland is also famous for their aftercare service.

Most one star reviews are quacks. You'll find these are the ones who waited for 5 minutes without being served in a restaurant at peek time & walk out, only to leave a one star review without having a drink or tasting the food

If it was just your own family you could most likely get away without the special breaker, a priority switch. These cost around 120 euro. With a lodger in the house I wouldn't expect them to follow the rules as much as family members. If you run both at the same time you may blow the ESB fuse. ESB charge 150 (Ithink) to come out & replace this fuse.

Thanks again for all the info. I'm certain now that I will get 2 Triton t90sr showers. You're right about the one star reviews. The majority of people who are really happy with their shower are unlikely to run online with a 5 star review. It is more people with a bee in their bonnet that tend to give reviews.
