    Hi

has anyone had much success with Three Wireless Broadband?

I was considering buying a router online and an external antenna and mounting it on a pole same my TV aerial.

Has anyone done something similar on here?

    Thanks

massive congestion and they'll do nothing about it but worth a try, get a cheap prepay dongle or something and test a prepay sim with a week pass.

Until I got FTTH installed recently this is what I was doing for the last few years as there was no other alternative. Was originally using a meteor sim before changing to three.

TBH i found the three network, where we are, ok and would average 30-50Mbps.

If you check the midband thread you will find examples of what you are planning. Also check the comreg siteviewer which will show you the masts that are nearby to your location which may offer an alternative to three.

Very variable speeds in my experience. I've measured mid 30s Mbs all the way down to less than 200k. I seem to be on the fringes of a 4g area so sometimes I'm getting 4g and sometimes not. Even with the router set to 3g, though, I still found a lot of variation in speed.

your best bet would do do what "video " suggested.

I am have been using it in a fixed location (seaside area) and, it vairies terribly , depending on time of day, and, year (busy summer and BH weekends).
Bear in mind that this network is also shared with Virgin Media.

As my contract is almost up, I have now started using Eir PAYG €30 P/M (same price as three) for 50 Gig and it seem much more reliable and stable.

I actually installed an aerial last night, still need to do some fine tuning but with Vodafone I was get excellent speeds, Ping 19ms DL 61.01mbps Upload 12.41mbps I attached my speed test. Eir and Three were less than half the speed of Vodafone.

I tried the three sim card yesterday evening and it was awful max 3mb. I'm going to bring it back and try get a refund. To go from 70mb to 3mb just shows how congested that network is.
