    Hi Guys,

Earlier this year I bought a 2012 WV Jetta from a dealer in Cavan. 7000 euro with 3 month warranty.

Today I came into a bit of money so I enquired about trading it in, when they done a history check on the car they determined that it was a UK write of of Catagory D.

Now the car runs grand with no issues but it will be hard to shift on now. This information was not made clear to me when i bought the vehicle.
I am just wondering if there is any need to approach the original dealer about this and what my rights are as a consumer.

I paid via bank transfer so there is a paper trail of the sum paid to the dealer.

    Thanks.

Small claims court maybe? Tough break man. Maybe keep it as a second car forever

'Insurers have deemed them too expensive to repair and written them off. Because the basic structure of the car is not damaged, which would make them unsafe, they can still be sold on. They are then repaired more cheaply than insurers could manage and go on sale as Cat D cars, under an insurance code of practice.'

I'd certainly contact the dealer, but they could claim they never knew.

p.s. Always data check any car before buying.

doesn't matter whether dealer you bought it from knew or not, all legislation is firmly on your side..... first port of call is to contact dealer you bought it from and discuss a solution that would make you happy and if they are happy to look after you, that's the best outcome for all, especially you.

secondly if they're not willing to help you or look after you at all, you've a choice to make as to whether you want to go the legal route which may or may not take long time but any outcome is 99.99% to be in your favour, you won't likely profit but it will certainly be in your favour.

UK cat C/D/S/N info is available to all and its only ignorance, reluctance or stupidity that could prevent someone from finding this info out.

GIVE THE ORIGINAL DEALER FIRST OPTION TO LOOK AFTER YOU AS THEY MAY GENUINELY NOT HAVE KNOWN AND ARE LIKELY TO LOOK AFTER YOU.

If they didn't know it was a CAT D they should get out of the motor trade and start selling lemonade on the streets, they clearly don't have a bloody clue.

Of course they bloody new it was a Cat D, it's probably the main reason they could afford to sell it for 7k at the time and still make money on it. These cars are bought in the UK substantially cheaper than non written off cars meaning more profit selling them here.
