Health of cherry blossom tree

    Hi there,

We have moved into a house with an old cherry blossom in the front garden.

It produces leaves and blossoms, but is covered in "sores" and bumps on the bark. Yesterday I noticed something oozing out of the bark (or eating it, I am not sure) - see pics 1 and 2.

I would like to keep the tree healthy for as long as possible - is there anything I should be doing to protect the tree?

Thanks for the advice - this forum has been great for getting the lawn, the hedge and the compost heap all in tip-top shape!

Canker can cause weeping sap like that. Not sure if it is or how to treat it mind you, but it's definitely one avenue to explore.
