Hi, Can anyone explain to me why my order of two 10ml bottles of cbd oil was seized by customs at Athlone mailing centre. I understood CBD oil is legal in Ireland. What am I missing?

It's legal if it contains less than 0.2% THC according to a quick Google. Maybe worth checking the details of the product purchased.

    Mod
Suggest you enquire with the customs officer who seized the item

Where is it being delivered from?

It's a legal product bought from the UK.

At the moment even trace amounts of THC mean the product is illegal. The Government has been very slow to specify the lower level which may be considered saleable. There have been various seizures from shops and warnings over the past month or so reported in the press.

I bought the CBD oil from holland and barrett once. The 5% CBD, 0.000% THC, dirty brown sludge. It's pretty useless stuff.

Sounds like you bought something from abroad that's possibly illegal here. Have a read :https://www.fsai.ie/faq/cbd_oils_and_hemp_oils_legal_status.html

Either that or you ordered it from outside the EU, therefore it will be liable to VAT and possibly stricter scrutiny from customs.

I imported a bottle last month with no problems!

People import illegal things the whole time. Sometimes customs catch it, sometimes they don't. Why not post a link to the product you purchased?

If it is liquid that may have been the reason?

See Customs An Post regs online.

I once had a parcel I sent to Canada left back by an Post with a great label: airport handlers found dangerous items are are returning the parcel.

It included a tiny bottle of Vitamin B drops
