Sky Box Getting No Signal on Certain Channels

Wondering if anyone else has come up against this issue. On certain channels I've started receiving the message "Your Sky+HD Box isn't Receiving a Satellite Signal" and I'm not sure what the issue is.

It only seems to be a certain grouping of channels that are affected (BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4, Comedy Central are the ones I know of) with others being received fine. Both the signal strength and quality are also both coming up as fine for LNB1&2 on the box so I don't really know what the issue is.

Anyone else ever come across something similar?

    I am having a similar problem -

Last week I got my dish and lnb replaced. I am planning of scrapping Sky and moving to a soarview combo box. I have had trouble with the signal for quite a while, particularly when it was raining.

Anyway - since the new dish was installed I have lost RTE1 & 2, (101 & 102) some of the sky channels (e.g. 106) and some others like SyFy. When I told the guy who installed the new dish he checked the signal with a meter and said there was a full signal so it must be a problem with the sky box. I thought - fair enough.

I had an old sky box and after he left I switched it out. Without the viewing card I was able to view most of the free to air channels - except BBC 1 & 2 (101 & 102) and a small few of the others. When I put the viewing card into this other box I got RTE 1 & 2 but they were badly distorted (like when I had a downpour previously) - I lost Virgin One and the sky channels that I had with the other box - but I did get BBC1 & 2 (141 & 142).

When I reconnected the Sky+ box - RTE 1 & 2 are gone - Virgin One and TG4 are back - and some of the Sky channels are back.

If the problem was the Sky+ box then the old sky box would work - and it seems to be channels that are tied to specific numbers on the skyboxes (e.g. 101 & 102).

From googling it - the most common suggestion is that there is a problem with the alignment of the dish or a problem with the lnb. Something to do with the reading the transponders. When I checked the frequencies of the channels the missing channels tend to be grouped together. This would indicate to me that I have a dish/lnb issue.

Hopefully someone with knowledge can indicate if I am on the right track.

Yes you are on the right track. More than likely the dish is not aligned correctly. If you booked the call out through Sky they will send someone out again free of charge. Make sure they credit your account for a loss of service.

You may have this sorted already but I had a similiar problem about 2 years ago. Turns out there was a tree close by and the leaves were blocking the dish getting a full signal. We cut a few branches and problem solved.
You can check the signal strength of both cables on one of the settings of the sky box. Our signal strength used to varying when the signal would drop out.
