I thought Maxol's E5 unleaded petrol used to be 99 Octane. What happened?

I'm usually a Texaco user but visited my local Maxol today and at the pump it was labelled e5 Unleaded 95 Octane.

On boards.ie there are a few threads about petrol and octane and I clearly remember reading that e5 is 99 Octane, and e85 is 105 octane, or so I recall, I realise that e85 is no longer available (not locally anyway) but when did Maxol change the octane rating down to 95?

Was it just a marketing gimmick to reel people in and then downgrade the petrol once they achieved their desired growth in sales/customers.

    Thanks in advance ☺️
