Gutter question

the gutter on my roof drains the water from the roofs of 2 houses.
it then travels a short distance down the back wall of a third neighbours house and enters his drainage system.

another option available to me is to run the drainage pipe across the top of roof of my kitchen extension. my builder has offered to divert it for me but has warned me that over time a pipe sitting on a roof can damage it eg a storm.

the chances that my neighbour will ever extend is house is very low.

should i leave the pipe to drain into his system or divert the pipe over my extension roof.
