Herselfs family has one of these and they are having issues with channels

I've tried resetting it to factory, then looking on line with limited ideas/guides I got some back, then they said only five channels now

Is there some update or something I can do as there is no wifi etc connection so its the same firmware etc from when they got it years ago

    Thanks

It's a generic free to air satellite box. They rearrange satellite channels all the time and when they do their frequency changes and you need to rescan the new frequencies to get the channel back. This is an ongoing issue, one you fix it the box will start losing them again. They world be better to buy a Freesat box that automatically updates the channels and also provides a 7 day epg.

They'll love to here that after paying hundreds, I blame the installer promising them sun moon and stars

How much would one of those boxes cost and Im guessing its the same wiring and then channels etc?

It depends on what features you want, a basic one can be got for about 100 quid, a Humax is more expensive but offers recording one and watching another channel, series link etc

Humax HB-1100S HD TV Freesat Receiver (requires Satellite dish) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06VWDD3KF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_vjFdDbXAYRG18

Don't blame the installer, most people just want the cheapest option to get them working channels. Freesat is more costly, is a branded product, a joint venture between the BBC and ITV. It's not marketed here, you need to select a UK postcode.

It's say you're right, they just wanted the cheapest option as only in the kitchen so not really on

Thanks for the link and information.

There doesn't look to be a rf? Connection so no soarview?

No, sorry I didn't realise the Alma was a combo box doing both terrestrial and satellite. The Humax is just satellite

Check out the Tiviar thread, it's not an of the shelf solution, requires some work to configure but once done will be setup to act like a Freesat and Saorview combo with updating channels, recording and series link etc

No worries, I might even have the wrong model number (missing a + maybe), Ill give that a thread a look and tell them why and price etc

    Thanks again

    Have you tried retuning?
If nothing else is wrong other than channels changing frequency, this would fix it.

The number of channels changing frequency is small and happens irregularly.

It is not an onerous job to find any wanted channels that might change frequency.

It's more the fact that they can change at any time which is fine if it was your own box in your own house but do you really want to be the one to have to attended to this on your in laws box every time you visit.

Here's a site that updates the list of changes as they happen

I suppose if you visit your inlaws once or twice a year that would be necessary.
The vast majority of channels viewed do not change frequency at all and those that do probably no more than once a year.

At least that is my experience over the last few years.

That's a very deep hole you've just gotten yourelf into :D

Blind scan adds 900+ channels at the end of your existing 900+ channels, most of them will be paid Sky channels hence scrambled. The best way to update missing channels is TP scan on each frequency to re-add the channel. https://en.kingofsat.net/pos-28.2E.php

This is only half the job, this adds the channel to the end of the all channels list, you then need to add it and move it in your channels groups listing, entertainment etc depending on how your box is setup

It's a pure pain in the hole, if they continually want this done I suggest gifting them a Tiviar which can be setup to update channel changes automatically every night
