Can the Wii U be used without a gamepad? Ie. With just Wii controllers.

Ie can all it’s normal functions be used (starting, opening and playing games etc) be performed?

I know there are probably some games that need the gamepad but I’m thinking games like Mario galaxy /kart / smash bros and splatoon?

    Thanks!

    Splatoon needs gamepad.
Smash needs a gamepad to start the game I think.
Mario Galaxy is a Wii game so should be OK.
    Not sure about Kart.

I think the gamepad is needed for the eshop too.

Sounds like a headache, to be honest. :o

    Thanks, Mr E.

Seemed like a bargain for a Wii U without a gamepad but given it’s basically banjaxed without one there’s no point when ye can pick up a used Wii U full kit for €90 in GameStop.
