Ever had a car that fixed itself ?

I had a 91' Mazda 323 with a notchy gearbox for months, then one day it fixed itself and was never notchy again.

92' Honda civic ferio Jap import, use to have a noisy power steering wine on full lock, then it somehow fixed itself and never made a sound ever again.

98 Civic coupe, strange clunking from under the car which I couldn't figure out what it was, nor could anyone else. Drove it this way for years, then it suddenly stopped. Sold it soon afterwards.

02 Alfa Romeo 147, engine light use to spuriously come on when driving, then it fixed itself after many months of this. The ABS light use to light up on cold mornings to, this however ,- didn't fix itself.

00' BMW 318i saloon, engine light use to come on because of an air leak within the petrol cap, wasn't sealing properly. Never worried me too much, i use to reset it with my OBD tool every once in awhile. Then one day it just stopped coming on and behaved normally for the remaining months I owned it.

98' Rover 416 saloon, had bottom end noise for a long time, plan was to drive it until it blew up since you wouldn't be spending money on this thing. It strangely stopped making bottom end noise and I drove it for many months afterwards before selling it to buy another.

Nope, never, but I’ve only ever owned BMWs so I’m sure that’s my reason....!

I had a car with a timing chain rattle.
I didn't bother to fix it as car was so cheap "I'll just drive it into the ground".

One day the rattle just stopped "Great, it has healed itself..."

4 weeks later the timing chain snapped...

I was driving to Dublin from Clare in an old Mazda 6 to go to a gig, and somewhere on the N7 an almighty rattle started coming from the gearbox. It kept slipping out of gear, so I had to drive with my hand on the gearstick the whole time. I assumed the car would break down within seconds, but decided to keep going and see how far I’d make it before calling the tow truck. Got to the M50, still rattling, still slipping, but figured I’d chance getting as far as I could. The rattle was deafening at this point, all the other drivers were looking at me. Amazingly I made it all the way to my Dad’s house. Parked up and went to the gig, assuming I’d be getting the train home the next day.

Next morning, went out and started up the car to see how bad it was, and not a bother. Drove all the way back to Clare with no rattle and no gear slip. Drove fine for another year until I scrapped it (for other reasons).

I think we have a winner

Not as good as the above but on my A4 the oil level sensor was throwing warnings, low oil level and then level sensor failure, then the warning went last 2 months. I put a new one in anyway last weekend as was changing oil anyway.

    Nothing major really.

Ages ago had Fiat 125 with faulty headlight stalk - when switching from dipped beam to high beam ALL lights were going off. Quickly found out that pulling the stalk just a bit back solves the problem. And after a few months the whole thing just fixed itself. :)
