    Hi,
    Probabaly already asked somewhere here.

    I have NCT tomorrow.
My EML is on, cause according to OBD is MAF sensor.
MAF sensor was swapped, but after clearing the code the light came on again.

Will be getting it looked at over the weekend.

Will it fail because the light is on?

I'm not 100% but I think on petrols it doesn't fail but for diesels it does.
Could be wrong but I think that's what I read here before.

If petrol - not fail in itself
If diesel - a fail in itself

Our prius passed the NCT a couple of months ago with the EML on.
And it went off the next day and has not reappeared!

When the code is cleared how long does the light stay off for . Might be worth clearing the code outside the test centre and hoping it doesn't come on until after the nct .

I can stay off for an hour sometimes, sometimes comes back on after 2 or 3 stops and starts.

Stayed off for half a day today
Going to chance it before the test tomorrow

Have it booked in with the mechanic for Saturday anyway.

If you have a scan tool yourself clear the codes before nct . Thatll get you through it .
    Goodluck tomorrow
    Report back after test

EML is not a failure in petrols, unless the reason the light is on is because there is a problem with the exhaust emissions (then it will fail the emissions part of the test). Its an instant fail in a diesel.

Would you not have turned it off with an ELM327?

    So it failed.
But not on the EML being on.
    Another few things it needs.
Side light bulb (didnt cop it was out at all)
Rear swing arm bushings both sides.
    Frayed seat belt.
    Number plate lights not working

Doesn't sound too expensive to fix.

Get the codes read for the EML though, it could be something small and cheap to fix.

We've a small petrol car with the EML on for years. Mechanic said he thinks it's a faulty sensor causing it, can't remember exactly as it was over 5 years ago, but the emissions are spot on going by the NCT results and no tester ever mentioned the light.

    Had it read this evening.
    It's the throttle body.

Mechanic reckons because of the age of the car (2008), it's best to replace rather then try to clean it.
