What telescope?

I know this has been asked a million times but I’m looking to get a decent telescope.
Basically something that I can see the planets well with and maybe more.
Always been interested in astronomy but usually just tv programmes.
What are decent buys and what kind of money?

I’d rather go a bit less € . As a complete amateur I’m not going to go completely mad !

How are you with the time and patience ?

I seen the clear sky this year only twice so far... and looked at the moon in plain full day light. You prepared for it ?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to seem like I was dismissing your suggestion, I just don’t want to go whole hog (1000s€) into something as you said is difficult enough with our weather.
dark sky’s and patience I have .
Whether my kids and the weather play ball is another matter.
I know from trying to watch various things ( eclipses etc) that our cloudy weather can play havoc with star gazing.
So I’d like to get a good telescope that will help me get on the ladder to see if I want to bring it further.
I hope that makes sense.

Honestly, Id say if you are testing your interest level - start off with a good pair of binoculars.

I have about 5 different pairs and I use them all FAR more often than my telescope - which has actually been boxed and in the attic for months now.

And youll pick up a tripod cheaply.

Actually, my most commonly used binoculars are a pair of 10*50s I got in LIDL for 20 euro. I use them all the time because for 20 euro I just leave them in the car and dont worry about them - hence I have them to hand pretty much every time I want to look at something in the night sky.

Oh I already do use binoculars.

Its a much cheaper way to get a good product while you are figuring out how much you want to to spend on your first telescope
