Any updates on the Huawei and google issue? Is it still at a stand still or are Huawei phones worth getting now, as their prices have dropped with '3' provider?

it was never broken.

the threat is google will stop doing updates at some unspecified time on the device. not that it would stop working. new apps can be sideloaded so the potential impact wasn't 'broken phone'.
