As far as I know you don't need anything but we did get cert in English.

There is nothing you need do (that you wouldn't be doing anyway).

So, you should notify the Revenue of your marriage, just as you would if you had married in Ireland. They are unlikely to ask for a marriage cert but, if they do, send them the Spanish marriage cert. Similarly, if anyone else needs to see your marriage cert, show them your Spanish marriage cert.

As meeh said, sooner or later you're going to need a translation into English of your marriage cert, so you might like to organise that now.

    Hi folks,

We've just returned from getting married in Spain. We have our wedding certificate from the Spanish authorities.

I was under the impression that we would need to register the wedding in Ireland.

According to this there is nothing we need to do.

    Is that right?

    Cheers

You will need an English translation of your Spanish wedding cert every time you apply for Irish benefits and entitlements as SW etc only have access to Irish Births Deaths and Marriages.
So get it translated and notorized and have at least 3 of those and then a few photocopies of same and keep them in a safe place.
There’s no such thing as “registering” your marriage in Ireland. You’re married under Spanish civil law and of course Ireland recognizes the legality of that.

If you had a wedding planner ask if they can provide an international wedding certificate. It’s a very with all the details and translations ok it so you don’t need to pay to get it translated and notarised etc. Our planner in Spain got this along with the Spanish cert.
