I need to put some shelves in a utility room and am wonder what timber to use and where to get it. I have no way of ripping sheets down so need lengths already cut the the right depth. Recommendations?

The likes of woodies will have a selection of stuff from planed timber to pressed fibre boards.

Tried B&Q and they didn't really have anything suitable, will try Woodies.

what type of timber? Where are you?

Woodworkers (terenure, Dublin) have melamine in 300mm depths - which is usually what you want for shelving.

If you're in a car, you would just need to cut them to length with a handsaw when you get there.
Any of the panelling centres or Noyeks will have them too.
