Rethinking Crannógs

    Recent evidence from crannógs in Scotland is raising fresh questions about sites previously assumed to date from the Iron Age.
    Could parallel sites in Ireland raise similar questions?
    Traditional assumptions have been overturned as a result of ongoing research into Irish hillforts with dates of 3700 - 3500 BCE being derived from charcoal deposits from Spinan's Hill and circa 1500 - 1700 BCE for many of the other hillforts in the Wicklow complex.
