Driveway cleaning - was I hosed? (Probably!)

Had someone in to do the driveway cleaning - they said that the cleaning and sealing occurred at the same time i.e. the pump fed sealant into the water spray - that sounds suspicious to me as I had thought that sealing was something done after cleaning?

Price paid was fine for just a washing but it does go towards whether I'd want to ever use them again.

Think you were told a porky. If you didn't see them put down a seal, it never happened.

That's what I thought - our travelling friends strike again (wifey was convinced at the door - I'll be telling her not to do that again).

Btw love the sig - I'd love to donate but apparently I might have mad cow's (lived in England for a while) and the IBTS won't let me give my precious B- blood.

It’s possible your gaff has been cased out for future visits too so make sure your security is up to scratch.

I do think that they are more of a "make money from odd jobs" type - they have a website with plenty of youtube videos of their cleans too. Doesn't mean the info can't be passed onto friends or family though!

We have internet linked security cams so generally it's been a good deterrent :) thanks for the advice all.

You can get spray on sealers for cleaning cars and such. It's like a wax coating. Halfords used to sell 5ltr drums of them for €25 or so. You could spray it via a hose with the water if you'd a shampoo/snow foam bottle attachment on the pressure washer.

So maybe they use something like that? It wouldn't last long at all, but it would cause water/rain to bead up and roll off, giving the impression of a good sealant being used. Maybe that's the kinda thing they're doing?

You'll know is a sealer was used as water will 'bead' on the surface (depending what the surface is of course. Might not work on concrete/tarmac but should work on paving/cobblestone).

... Or they might have just lied. One or the other.

    As above.

I'm more confused about the fella that didn't know there was spray on sealers.

How does he think the auto car washes work...

Just looked at their site. Any landscaper offering 30% off in peak summer season is a cowboy.

This crowd put flyers in our letterbox recently. As a general rule of thumb I’d never use anyone who puts a flyer in a door. If they’re good then they don’t need to drum up business like that.

Any suggestions for legitimate companies that power wash a front driveway? Live in a terrace, so would be looking for a company that uses the plastic tanks for the job.

Cheers if anyone has any info.

They're a versatile bunch, drain clearing as well for only 70 euro.

Lesson learnt - just spent a few hours filling in polymeric sand into the joints where the sand's been blasted out - that should keep the driveway fresh for a while anyway :)

There's an episode on UK tv, one of those watchdog-type programmes that catch dodgy builder and electricians and the like, and this was about people cleaning and sealing roofs.

The cowboys were saying the same thing, that the sealant was added to the water/spray. The expert was saying that was a load of rubbish.
