Jobseeker's Benefit/Allowance after PhD

Hi all. I'm a final year PhD student expecting to finish up in the next few months. I'm going to run over my allotted funding, but should be able to fund myself until I hand up my thesis. Does anyone know if you can apply for Jobseeker's Benefit/Allowance after handing up the thesis or do you have to wait until you finish your viva?

Are you able and looking for work, if so you can apply for benefit, you may have to "fudge" the viva bit

Thanks for the response. Ya, you can definitely work while waiting for the viva. I'll be applying for jobs, but I expect that there will be a gap of a few months between handing up the thesis and getting a job

You should apply but leave the viva out as Revenue may say you are still technically a student, the attached site is useful
