Painters mate / Polyfila question

    I used Polyfilla to fil the gaps between new skirting boards and the wall but I was told afterwards that it will expand (and crack) with the heat and that I should have used Painters Mate.

    Lesson learnt for future jobs but I have to paint the skirting and wall I've already done. Am I better putting Painters Mate on top first before I paint? Thanks.

    i'd say that you are better off leaving it as it is now. Only if it cracks then go back to fixing it properly.

    FWIW I use builders caulk to fill these gaps. Its flexible and paintable. Its kinda like silicone, but easier to use. -and cheap!!!

    Thanks daheff. You'd recommend it over painters mate would you?

    tbh -never heard of painters mate before you mentioned it.

    looking at woodies, they seem to be pretty much the same thing...just one more expensive....possibly just a brand naming premium!

    I've gotten non brand names for 3/4 eur at most and they are as good as the branded stuff imo.

    Painters Mate = Caulk.
    Caulk = Painters Mate.

    I use the B&Q caulk, cheapest one
    Does the job perfectly

    Both of the products listed above are too expensive. Bought a tube of caulk the other day in B&Q, it was €1.35.
