Can’t see why it should be mandatory.

An automatically populated filter on donedeal for NCT expiry would be more effective in solving your gripe.

    No. Silly idea tbh.

No as long as you don't have to buy one without it.

So say my car fails the nct. I'm not in a financial position to fix it so in your world I'd either be obliged to repair the car or scrap it.

It's illegal to drive without an NCT, except for a few exemptions, so unless the car is being trailered away it's already illegal. Its stupid people buying on the "promise" that it'll fly though is the problem, if the buyer does not care about the car being illegal why should the seller.

It's not illegal to be sold without an NCT. As far as I recall the responsibility is on the driver, that the car is legal to be on the road, not the owner.

You miss the point. Its illegal to drive without an NCT so you cannot legally drive off the forecourt unless you have an NCT.

If you buy without an NCT you need a trailer or wagon to remove it from the forecourt and again to get to the NCT Centre, you can drive home if it fails but you'll need the trailer/wagon to bring it back for the retest.

    And what about it?

The OP asked should it be illegal for a car to be sold without an NCT. Except for a very few circumstances it already is.

I'd agree that a dealer should always sell a car with an NCT. Not an individual though.

It's not prohibited by law to sell a car without a NCT.

It isn't though. It may be illegal to drive a car in a public place without a valid NCT, but that has nothing to do with selling a car without a valid NCT.

Why would someone buy a car they can't drive? We don't need a law to make it illegal to sell without an NCT, there are plenty of reasons why you would buy a car without an NCT, because its already illegal to drive without an NCT.

I'm not missing the point at all. It's not the sellers responsibility what someone does with the car. Its the drivers responsibility.

No one is forcing you to buy it. Just browse on.

Iv bought a few cars with expired NCT because it is easy to beat the seller down to rock bottom price, do any repairs myself and NCT it myself. = value motoring.

Most of the cars/vans/trucks I've had I bought without valid test on them. What was illegal about any of those instances? Nothing. Why should it be illegal? No reason whatsoever.

And who says that every car bought is bought to go straight out on the road or even on the road ever again?

You're just promoting how you - yourself would like to deal with these things without viewing from any other perspective.

I've sold stuff with no NCT where the buyer collected with trailer or recovery. Not much illegal about that.
