Word Count in Word 2016 and Harvard Referencing...?

Harvard Referencing requires all references to be included in brackets in the body of the text. If you're referencing texts lots of times, this eats into the word count. Is it possible to have Word discount words in brackets? Thanks! D.

Hilariously - I don't believe there is a simple way to this in word.

There is the option of making a copy of your document. Using a wildcard search and replace function to delete all texts contained within parenthesis and getting a word count this way. See https://www.datanumen.com/blogs/3-ways-exclude-texts-parentheses-brackets-word-count/

That makes for a very nice feature request.

Could you embed a macro that uses regular expressions to calculate the word count?
