Anyone with experience mounting IKEA Vigda curtain rails on the ceiling?

IKEA seem pretty cagey about saying how much weight the rails will take. I'm trying to figure out how heavy a curtain I can hang from them if i mount them in a (plasterboard) ceiling of a bay window. I'm aiming to hang a lined curtain if it'll take it (gotta block out all light forever...)

    Cheers!

I would have thought the fixings would be the weakest point.

You will need to have something solid to fix to, studs, concrete or make your own.

dont know much about the rail system but i would assume it can easily hold a normal curtain surely a lined curtain would be within its designed weight limit.

mounting to the ceiling is the easy part. try and find the joists if you can but if you cant then use zip toggles or molly fixing .

Its the yanking closed of the curtains that will cause problems eventually. You can't rely on the plasterboard being that well fixed to whats above even if the fixings are good.
Given batten to which plasterboard is fixed won't match your desired rail mount points your looking at batten across plasterboard into joists above (2×1 or similar sized moulding) then decent wood screws into that.

Plasterboard won’t hold you need to find the beams
