    Hello
I was hoping just to get a little advice prior to buying a car.
I am about to look at one , and would appreciate any guidance as what to look for or indeed any known issues with the type of car..thank you ..paddy.

so it is an import from Mercedes manchester. Bought by present owner/seller
when one year old with 11K on the mileage.

Has a full service history so he says from main mercedes dealer , Dublin.
2.1L now has 75K on it. c220 Sports Plus.

    says genuine reason for sale.
I am very wary really as I got badly stung before , from a main dealer of all places. Not an issue for me that it is a private sale , more concerned about any known issue /s with this model , or anything i should ask or know.

Thanks is advance , is the price competitive!!!! 19.750 he seeking

LADS IM A NUSIANCE NOW I KNOW!!!!!I take on board all the advice I am been given as I think its very common sense and practical.

I just now after the talk about the Garage/Private issue. I called a garage guy who I got an import of before and just asked him had he anything in that might suit.
I will google and check similar , it is 21.000 euro he seeking. I bought a corolla off him before , he is a decent guy , he buys cars for years from the UK
and sells them locally. Had no issues with him before. He will look after it if any issues , I am confident.

its a two tone black colour BMW , N Sport. 67.00 Miles. Super condition , I will call tomorrow and have a look. Its a bit more than I want to spend , but at least I would have peace of mind. I again am seeking any views / knowledge of any previous issues (I asked him about the ERG? recall -he doesn't think it affects this engine but he will check with BMW) ....again any guidance .advice appreciated. Paddy

I bought a 2012 C220 in 2017 from North. 13,400 including VRT. Mileage was higher at 100k miles

    Watch for
    *coolant leak; cheap enough fix
*the "leather" seats are fond of ripping
*change air filter by the book, they can get manky quickly for some reason

I've put 50k miles on since. Nice place to sit, even on 350 mile days. Very economical to run for a car with reasonable poke.

Thats super to hear , thanks , he tells me just now its due small service in 3k miles about 160 e. new tyres just put on , and new brake pads ,all round!
would you think that price is reasonable? 48.000 miles seem good for a 142 car too...

Personally unless I knew driver I'd be very very slow to buy a 5 yr old diesel doing 10k miles a year. I'd nearly rather if it was clocked!

A good mechanic who has appropriate diagnostic kit would be a must. Also call the garage and check the service records. Also check nct mileage

Oil change is about 6L, so parts alone for just oil change is going to be 50 odd at cost, a few more filters will make the rest of the 160 small.

OP, like your BMW 3 Series thread, you need to check asking prices of similar cars on the likes of donedeal, carzone, etc. Nearly 20k for a 2014 C Class is mad money. You can buy a 2015 model for that sort of money:

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/mercedes-c220d/21549066

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/mercedes-benz-c-class-2015/22035626

You seem focused on private sellers because you got burnt by a dealer which is fine but paying over the odds for a private sale where you have absolutely no come back whatsoever just seems daft. The whole idea of a private sale being cheaper than buying from a dealer is because the risk is greater.

If you are happy to buy private have you thought about importing from the UK?

Very strange comment to be honest. Its not the amount of mileage you do with a diesel that counts its the length of your journey. I do 10k a year in a modern diesel but only drive the car to/from work which is a 45min commute on open stretches. Exactly what diesel was designed to do.

Yeah Paddy I think you're looking at cars asking too high price again like the 3 series thread. Again, I bought 2014 S Line A6 and 2014 530d M sport from dealers with warranties for slightly less than you're being asked to pay. Just to show you why it's too expensive

5 series and a6 are more expensive than C class, although the gap does narrow by the time they are 4 or 5 years old

I bought from dealer with warranty, you are looking private

My cars were 4 years old at the time, yours is 5 years old

My cars both had less kms than yours although just a little bit

You seem very worried about issues with the cars so I think you should go to a dealer, although a private sale at a good price gives you leeway for any money you have to put into it, but chances are the car will be fine however you never know.

My cars weren't especially cheap either, there were cheaper options.
2014 C class is a nice car though, can't fault your choice there.

I tend to agree , this chso has full Mercedes service history from a merc dealer which will show mileage I'm sure ...he buses it in and out for job....

Woukd it be fair to say these type of cars are generally more expensive to service and look after ,all electronics etc? I'm heading upmarket from an Octavia!!!

Appreciate that thanks indeed. I see both sides private and garage ....its a toss of a coin I suppose it is a bit of comfort knowing you have some warranty for sure
