Delivery of car from the north + warranty

Just looking for what the norm is in a situation like this.

Decided to go for a car from the north due to a €500 saving on a higher spec car with lower millage. I've paid for delivery of the car, however the phone I received today has kind of thrown me.

Basically had a dothery, only way to describe him, gentleman from the dealership call me today (at 7:40pm) informing me he never checks his emails and only noticed the one he received on Friday to arrange for delivery. Now during said call, he attempted to bully me into meeting "his friend" at a random petrol station of his choosing at a time of his choosing to arrange "the swap". Naive I guess but I would have assumed paying for delivery didn't mean my mate Johnny was going to drive the car down first off, nor did it mean I'd have to completely bend to what suited them (there'd be give and take of course) instead of being bullied into what suited them. Didn't pay for the added millage, don't know if he'll drive the arse off it and there's while a slim chance but still a chance something could happen on the way down. He literally ended the call by saying "that'll mean he'll be back by 6:30pm that'll be perfect".

Also after receiving full documents today, it appears that I've to pay £200 for a 6 month warranty which'll cover the costs of up to £750. Now to be fair I'd expect nothing to go wrong mechanically (unless my fault somehow) for something to go wrong in 6 months, but to be charged for it seems ridiculous.

I'm assuming this isn't the norm at all, or would I be mistaken? Considering the way this all came about (after no contact for 5 days after payment, I had to initiate it) I'm thinking of telling them to stuff it and get my money back to the euro equivalent (they insisted on payment in sterling as well).

Bit of a rant sorry, just got very annoyed after the call and details emerged.

Have you ever seen this car?

OP, sounds like a lot of things during this negotiation were taken in 'good faith' and not fully thrashed out.

...it might be just a case of expectations versus reality. My suggestion is you still have time to thrash things out ... get back onto the sales guy you have been dealing with from the garage and air your grievances. Threaten to pull the plug on the whole deal unless if you get satisfaction.

For example : I assume you were thinking 'delivery' meant it would be delivered on a truck to your house?
and that the warranty would be included in the sale price and not an extra.

    Side notes :

Delivery on a truck to your house might cost a hell of a lot more than the price they originally quoted you for the 'driven' option....

also how exactly are you going to ever use the Warranty ? is it a manufacturers warranty? is it valid in the Republic? can it be 'redeemed' in a local garage... have you confirmed that with the local garage?

Can't understand buying a car over the phone..and having a look poss9at it on the net.. Belfast is Extremely commutable these days and having bought 2 cars up there in the past I've always taken the short few hours to get up to the dealership and ensure my hard earned money was actually purchasing what i was expecting..
The uk is a bit more difficult but i still make it my business to go see..before transferring a lot of money..
Best option for you now would be get yourself up north and ensure all is well..
    Good luck

Ps..your issues with the dealer requiring payment in sterling is absolute normal..
Chill out a little..you're adding to your own stress..

Thanks for the replies everyone, certainly was a bit more wound up last night after a horrible day in work and came out to scrapes and bangs on both side of my current car in the staff car park.

100% naieve with the over all purchase, completely admit that.

Have a family connection with the dealership, hence why probably taking a few things for granted. Did essentially facetime with the seller running through the car inside and out etc, got all the info and test drived identical cars down south. From dublin suppliers warranty was jusy standard, not a paid extra. Also definitely not point in it as say the car doesnt drive for whatever reason getting it to Derry would prove, challenging shall we say.

All in all more the massive unprofessional nature and time of the delivery set up which got me, which appeared that would never have come unless i went chasing as the bloke said he olds, never checks his emails and it had been there since friday.

Will be calling the dealership today though to discuss further.

Do genuinely appreciate the replies folks, no more rnats on it.

A £200 warranty that covers failures up to £750 for up to 6 months sounds like shocking value for money altogether.
