Would greatly appreciate any insights as to which I should choose

Im looking at 18 Reg hatchback models in the UK for the missus

She drives roughly 20k per annum

Greater fuel economy and better resale for the Diesel.

Whilst the Petrol would have more poke over the 1.6 Diesel but probably would have to take a major hit if and when we move it on.

Things aren’t that bad for petrol generally, but on a bigger car diesel is the norm.

If selling privately down the road you might do well, a dealer may not go balls-out on a trade in price.

Both the wife and I have the petrol Superb, one manual, one DSG, 2015 and 2016m both UK. I'd go petrol all day long, its a brilliant engine whereas the diesel is a bit of a gruff, gutless, dog. We both do around 20k a year too, 70% motorway, 30% urban. It is very frugal engine, 6.4l/100, but ignoring the economy it is just so refined (and quick) that it really elevates the Superb ownership experience.

And don't worry about moving it on, you won't want to. It is all the car you ever need, or want. I sold my 2014 BMW 5 series for one and I rate the Superb better in nearly every respect.
