Servicing a car

First time getting a car serviced tomorrow. Its a 2011 Kia Ceed. I have a few questions:

Should I ask them to check timing belt. The car has 96000 Miles on it?

There's a knocking on the drivers side wheel. I presume its the bearings. Should I alert them to this or will they check themselves?

Break Pads - Should I ask them to check?

Clutch - Should i ask them to check the clutch? Or are all these checks part of the service??

Sorry for the silly questions but I just don't want to be taking for a ride by the mechanic!

They will know what to check, it's in the service manual for the mileage.
Just ask for an itemised list of what they did.

    Do mention the knocking.

Of course ask and point out any issues you know of....

Make it clear you want to know if anything out of the ordinary is needed and you need to agree to work been done.

Timing belt is distance/age dependant so you can check when it's due. Brake pads will be checked and they should ask you to authorise replacing them, if you don't it'll be noted on the service docket.

You can tell them about the noise and they will check it, this will be extra on top of the service for any work. They should notice it on the test drive if it's bad.

Clutch isn't a service item and it's lifetime is entirely user dependent so they won't do any thing with this other than note if it's bad after the test drive.

Ok, I had no idea they take the car on a test drive!

All depends on where/who is servicing it?

Is is an oil change or an actual - done by the service book - service?

If it's a place that does something like a €69 service for all vehicles, you can be assured that it will get nothing but an oil and filter(s) change.

Speak to the garage doing the work & tell them what you want done, if you don't know - ask them to check everything and to give you a shout before proceeding

Pretty sure Ceed has a timing chain

There is no "check the timing belt".
The belt is not checked because it's inside the engine. You have to open up engine covers to reach it.
The belt is only checked when it's replaced because it has reached the mileage or age for when it's time to replace it.

What engine is it OP? As above the 1.6 CRDi has a chain which does not need regular replacement.

Possibly you meant they should check if the belt is due?
As I understand this is a chain (mentioned above by other guys) so unless there is a rattle or something pointing to a chain issue it will never* have to be replaced.

*should last the life of the car.

You should definitely check with the mechanic that this is indeed a chain engine

I think its still a chain, but check your manual - if it is a belt the service interval will be listed there.

Just ring the main dealer with your reg and ask them

OK dropped it down to mechanic today.

    Break Pads need replacing
Hand break Cable nearly seized so needs replacing.
Full service done also total cost €370

    He also said
Front wishbone needs replacing and bearings need replacing will cost €350 extra to get these sorted so have car booked in for start of July to get these sorted.
